Reconstitution protocol
How to properly
reconstitute a peptide
Peptides ship as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. They remain stable at room temperature for a few weeks, but they must be reconstituted before use. Follow the steps below to get a clean, stable and correctly dosed solution.
Prepare your workspace
Sterility is non-negotiable. Peptides are fragile molecules and any contamination can ruin an entire vial.
- Work on a clean, flat surface with strong lighting.
- Disinfect gloves, tweezers and the surface with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
- Wipe the rubber stoppers of the peptide vial and the bacteriostatic water vial with a fresh alcohol swab.
- Only open sealed syringes and needles at the last moment.
Prepare the peptide and the solvent
Let both vials come back to room temperature before starting. Cold liquid can shock the peptide and create turbidity.
- Remove the peptide vial from the fridge 15 to 20 minutes ahead of use.
- Use bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) as the solvent — it is the standard for laboratory reconstitution.
- Decide on your dilution volume in advance: more water = lower concentration = larger, easier-to-read syringe marks.
- Double-check the amount of peptide printed on the vial (2, 5, 10 mg…). This is what the calculator above expects.
Add the solvent into the vial
The goal is to rehydrate the lyophilized powder without shearing the peptide. Slow and steady wins here.
- Draw the calculated amount of bacteriostatic water into a clean syringe.
- Tilt the peptide vial at a 45° angle and insert the needle just below the rubber stopper.
- Release the water slowly along the inner wall of the vial, never directly onto the powder.
- Do not shake. Gently swirl the vial or let it rest until the powder fully dissolves into a clear solution.
Storage of reconstituted solutions
Once hydrated, peptides are perishable. Treat them like fresh lab material, not like supplements.
- Lyophilized powder: +4 °C for short-term storage, -20 °C for long-term storage.
- Reconstituted solution: 3 to 4 weeks in a refrigerator at +4 °C.
- For longer storage, split into sterile aliquots and freeze at -20 °C.
- Avoid repeated freeze / thaw cycles — each cycle degrades the peptide.
- Always inspect the vial before each draw. Discard any cloudy, discolored or particulate solution.
